Zeeland East (5-1-1) defeated Middleville Thornapple Kellogg (1-2-1) by an 8-1 score on August 22nd, leaning on a dominant doubles effort to secure the team win. Zeeland East swept all five doubles matches to turn the dual meet into a one-sided finish. The lone Middleville victory came at No. 1 singles, where James Sylvestre beat Zeeland East’s Daniel Steenwyk 6-3, 6-0. Zeeland East answered at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, as Gavin Sullivan downed Gideon Scott 6-3, 6-3 and Andrew Colasanti topped Aiden Riffel 6-2, 6-3. At No. 4 singles, Zeeland East’s Oliver Reese (5-2) outlasted Middleville Thornapple Kellogg’s Graham Eden (3-1) 7-6 (3), 1-6, 10-5 in a three-set tiebreak. From there, the Eagles’ depth took over, highlighted by a walkover win at No. 1 doubles and straight-set victories from Jace Velderman and Payton Ott, Lukas Hafeman and Pierson Kolean, Ben Slotman and Max Lewis, and Carson Van Dyke and Dylan Mishler. Zeeland East improved to 5-1-1 with the lopsided victory.
