Zeeland East Football Junior Varsity vs Flushing High School (46 - 6) Win The 1-0 JV Chix Football team hosted the Flushing Raiders Thursday afternoon at Zeeland Stadium. The Chix balanced offense and stingy defense propelled the team to a 46-6 victory. The win moves the team to 2-0 on the season. The Chix started quickly, scoring on their opening possession. Soph. Chase Shults took the opening hand off and scampered 64 yards to the Flushing 6 yard line. Schults finished the drive powering into the endzone from 6 yards away and after Soph. Hunter VanZyll converted the 2 point conversion, the Chix led 8-0. Flushing came right back to score their lone touchdown of the game on a 60 yard run, but the 2 point conversion failed and the Chix led 8-6. On the next possession, Soph Mikah Jones caught a 13 yard pass from Soph QB Hudson Lamer and after another VanZyll 2 point run, the Chix led 16-6. The Chix would add another touchdown in the 2nd qtr when QB Lamer found Soph Everett Hunsberger from 11 yards out. Soph Kolten Kimmel converted the 2 point run and the Chix led 24-6 at halftime. In the second half, the Chix offense scored 2 more touchdowns. The first touchdown of the half was Hudson Lamer's third touchdown pass of the game, this one from 59 yards out to Soph. Finn "McMissile" McGovern as he flew past the Flushing defenders for the touchdown. Lamer converted the 2 point conversion. The second offensive touchdown of the half was a 1 yard plunge by Mikah Jones late in the 3rd quarter. Jones also converted the 2 point conversion as the Chix held a 40-6 lead. The Chix defensive was stout throughout the game, and on the final play of the game, Freshman Bryson Fantin intercepted a pass and returned 62 yards for the touchdown to round out the scoring for the Chix. The JV team is back in action on Thursday September 17 as they host the FHC Rangers. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
