The JV Chix football team hosted the Cougars from Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Thursday evening on a beautiful night for football. In a physical, hard-hitting game, the Cougars came away with a 21 – 0 win over the Chix.
Offensively, the Chix had trouble running the ball, so Sam Cochran took to the air, completing 17 – 31 passes for 154 yards. 6 different players caught at least one pass, including Brandon Claerbaut, who had 5 catches for 44 yards and Nathan Claerbaut, who added 4 catches for 53 yards. Caleb Schrotenboer and Ian Bannach each added 3 catches on the evening.
Defensively, the Chix stood tall. The defensive only allowed 8 first downs, holding the Cougars to 2 of 10 on 3rd down conversions and forced 2 turnovers. Nick Lamberts led the way with 7 tackles, 3.5 Tackles for Loss (TFL) and a sack. Zach Bellis added 6 tackles and 2 TFL. Ian Bannach and Max Cochran intercepted a ball for the Chix.
The Chix play their next game on the road at West Catholic on Thursday, September 13.
